SAM

A SAM (Security Access Module) is a module that ensures the secure exchange of data between devices (e.g. validators) and smart cards. The SAM:

• Defines which data can be exchanged between the device and the smart card (e.g. the device can validate contracts on the card, the device can load data onto the card...).
• Encrypts all the information that is exchanged between devices and smart cards.

All devices that read data from smart cards or edit data on smart cards have to be equipped with a SAM (card readers, validators, AVMs, driver consoles...).
